Healthy ecosystems are complex, resilient, and self-renewing. While our current infrastructures and economic systems cause overwhelming environmental degradation, regeneration refers to something growing or being grown again. We Are the ReGeneration is a project connecting changemakers who work to restore life systems – water, air, soil – to regenerative capacity in the Netherlands and worldwide. It is part of Decade of Action, an act-tank established to accelerate the transition to a regenerative “ecology economy” over ten years between 2020 and 2030.

Muga. When she stops flowing, so will we (2025)

The project amplifies the voices of pioneers in regenerative agriculture, storytelling, academic research and governance and weaves grassroots initiatives into an ever-growing network.

They emphasize that in order to transform our current economic model, we need to recognise that systems are built on the stories we tell, so system change also depends on cultural work and inspiring different desires in people. By highlighting and threading together these stories, they aims to push regenerative culture into the mainstream by the end of the decade. Today, the Netherlands are lauded for one of the world’s most efficient systems of industrial agriculture. ReGeneration asks: What if, not long from now, they were instead celebrated as a world champion of regenerative agriculture?

On the project’s website, you can find a map of Netherlands-based initiatives, profiles of change-makers, documentaries on regeneration efforts and a substantial repository of articles, books and interviews on regenerative practices, from culture to science, from Indigenous wisdom to food, health and economy.
